CTE UAS Programs for High Schools

CTE directors and high school educators face a unique challenge when building unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) pathways. You need a program that bridges the gap between theoretical flight concepts and real-world workforce skills, but launching one often feels overwhelming without prior UAS experience.

PCS Edventures removes this operational friction. Our CTE UAS collection delivers the comprehensive curriculum, physical hardware and implementation support educators need to lead high school learners from foundational flight safety to advanced mission planning. Rather than relying solely on screen-based test prep, our solutions ensure learners gain the tangible, hands-on mechanical experience that modern industries demand.

Featured Program: Drone Pathways

Designed specifically for grades 10-12, Drone Pathways: Foundations of Flight Operations is a comprehensive CTE UAS program that goes far beyond basic piloting. Learners do not just fly — they actively assemble modular UAVs, master flight simulators and execute complex flight operations. The curriculum seamlessly integrates safety protocols, FAA regulations, flight logs, teamwork and career-connected learning to prepare learners for the reality of the modern workforce.

Prepare Eligible Learners for FAA Part 107

For programs that want to offer dedicated FAA credential preparation, Drone Pilot Ground School is an optional online add-on. This test-preparation course covers the specific FAA knowledge concepts required for Remote Pilot Certificate applicants.

Learners age 16 and older may add Drone Pilot Ground School to prepare for the FAA Unmanned Aircraft General — Small UAG knowledge test. Learners who meet FAA eligibility requirements and complete the required FAA testing and application process may earn an FAA Remote Pilot Certificate. Passing the knowledge test, completing the IACRA application process and clearing a TSA background check are required before the FAA issues the credential.

Evidence and Implementation Support

We understand that CTE funding requires documented educational rigor. Drone Pathways satisfies ESSA Level IV evidence requirement, Demonstrates a Rationale. The program features an Instructure-developed logic model informed by prior research, and an ESSA Level III or higher study is currently planned or underway.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Drone Pathways, and what grades does it support?

Drone Pathways: Foundations of Flight Operations is a comprehensive Career and Technical Education (CTE) unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) program built specifically for grades 10-12. Centered around the modular FLEX UAV platform, the curriculum guides learners through a proven Build → Simulate → Fly progression that integrates flight logs, safety protocols, team roles and a real-world capstone mission.

3. Does the program include flight simulator practice before live flight?

Yes. Flight simulator training is a core requirement within the curriculum to build muscle memory and piloting confidence before operating physical aircraft. Learners practice throttle, pitch, roll, yaw and complex precision maneuvers in a controlled virtual environment, eliminating initial crash anxiety for both instructors and learners.

5. Can we buy a single kit instead of a full classroom program?

Yes. Rockin' Robots, Cubelets BOT Builder, Cosmic Coders, Ready, Set, Drone! and Drone Designers are all sold as individual kits as well as complete programs.

7. What technology and operating systems are required?

Drone Pathways uses cloud-based digital learning resources compatible with Chromebooks, Windows and Mac devices. Each learner needs an internet-connected device to complete lessons, access flight logs and run digital curriculum assets. Review the Drone Pathways product page or schedule a consultation to verify device compatibility for simulator software.

9. What CTE standards and funding requirements does the program satisfy?

Drone Pathways aligns directly with state CTE frameworks across the country, including specialized pathways in California, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Utah.

Additionally, Drone Pathways is ESSA Level IV certified based on a third-party impact study conducted by Instructure. ESSA Level IV demonstrates the program is backed by an evidence-based logic model demonstrating measurable student outcomes in technical skills, CRM teamwork, and STEM identity.

This documented educational alignment provides CTE administrators with the verification needed to utilize Perkins V and Title IV-A funding.

11. Is Drone Pilot Ground School included with Drone Pathways?

Drone Pilot Ground School is an optional online add-on. Add it when your program wants structured FAA Part 107 knowledge-test preparation for eligible learners or educator professional development. Review the product page for current course and purchase details.

2. How many lessons are included, and how is the curriculum paced?

The program includes 20 core 45-minute lessons plus extensive "Explore More" extension activities covering topics like CAD design and GIS career connections. Educators can deliver the curriculum as an intensive 20-session unit, schedule it across a full semester or adapt it into a multi-week CTE pathway. Our core safety and simulator modules are purposefully front-loaded to ensure learners master control before ever taking off.

4. What physical space and safety protocols are required to operate?

Live-flight activities take place outdoors. Before learners fly, Drone Pathways covers LiPo battery handling, pre-flight safety checks, flight-simulator practice, visual-line-of-sight (VLOS) procedures, and team communication. Defined crew roles — including Remote Pilot in Command and Visual Observer — give learners structured responsibilities during flight activities.

6. Can learners repair or replace modular FLEX UAV parts?

Yes. Because learners physically assemble the FLEX UAV platform, they develop practical mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills to diagnose and repair their own aircraft. The curriculum incorporates modular design principles and CAD extension challenges for landing gear. Contact a PCS Program Specialist for current package details regarding replacement components and 3D-printable parts.

8. Can students earn an FAA Remote Pilot Certificate through this program?

Eligible learners may use Drone Pilot Ground School to prepare for the FAA Unmanned Aircraft General — Small UAG knowledge test. To earn an FAA Remote Pilot Certificate, applicants must be at least 16, meet FAA eligibility requirements, pass the knowledge test, complete the IACRA application process and clear the required TSA security background check. PCS Edventures does not directly issue the certificate.

10. What training and onboarding support do educators receive?

Every program package includes instructor onboarding videos, comprehensive educator guides, curriculum maps and access to digital teaching resources so instructors can lead without prior aviation experience. Qualifying packages also include professional onboarding webinars and dedicated implementation consultations to help your team launch with confidence.
