Power To The Code!

In Ready, Set, Code! Programming with Drones, students take to the skies and learn computer science skills with drag-and-drop drone programming! Utilizing the latest and easiest-to-fly mini drones, this program follows step-by-step web-based instructions as students work through the basics of programming, culminating in exciting STEAM challenges that test skills in coding and collaboration.

Grades: 4-8
Students: Up to 48
Contact Hours: 25+

Subject Targets:

Technology, Robotics & Coding, Math Connections

Technical Requirements:

Intro to DroneBlocks: 6 compatible devices (one per drone) running the DroneBlocks app and 1 compatible device running the Tello app.

The DroneBlocks app requires the use of a Wifi-enabled smartphone, tablet, Chromebook, desktop or laptop running Android, iOS or ChromeOS. (Note: DroneBlocks is not compatible with FireOS, the operating system for Amazon tablets.)

The Tello app required for firmware updates requires the use of a Wifi-enabled smartphone or tablet running Android or iOS. (Note: the Tello app is not compatible with FireOS, the operating system for Amazon tablets).

Curriculum Topics:

  • Aerial Robotics
  • Autonomous Drone Operations
  • Algorithms & Programming
  • Refactoring & Optimizing Code
  • Loops, Variables & Conditionals

One Great Drone, Three Curriculum Options:

Using the same mini drone, take your students to new heights by adding-on curriculum from Ready, Set, Drone! and Drone Designers. With an add-on option available for each mini drone program, we’ve made it easy to further your student interaction with UAV technology. Manually pilot mini drones and understand the science behind flight aerodynamics with Ready, Set, Drone! Then apply these skills to create an autonomous choreographed performance in Drone Designers: Exploring STEAM Careers.

Idaho Computer Science Standards:

While computer science standards vary from state-to-state, we hope this list of the Idaho State Standards provides a useful starting point for your alignment.

  • 3-5.AP.07. Construct an algorithm to accomplish a task, both independently and collaboratively.
  • 3-5.CS.01. Create code to model intelligent behavior in computing devices (e.g. CS unplugged activities, robot programming).
  • 3-5.IC.02. Explore the connections between computer science and other fields.
  • 6-8.AP.02. Compare different algorithms that may be used to solve the same problem by time and space efficiency.
