The world can’t stop buzzing about drones. From same-day deliveries to search and rescue missions, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have spent the last few years innovating the modern world. As the tool of the future, emerging drone technology has found a place in nearly every aspect of our lives, and it’s easy to see why. Drones unlock remote areas once only accessible by helicopter, make jobs like agriculture and surveying jobs easier, and with perhaps their biggest draw, drones are lighter on the wallet.

The Idaho STEM Action Center recently awarded more than $147,000 in grants to equip 22 schools and libraries throughout the Gem State with drones, including four sites in Eastern Idaho.

West Minco Middle School in Paul and Hailey Public Library are among 22 Idaho schools and libraries to receive a grant to buy a drone. The Idaho STEM Action Center announced Thursday the recipients of a total of more than $147,000.

Earlier this month, PCS Edventures had the pleasure of meeting with Ms. Sonia Galaviz, a 5th grade teacher at Garfield Elementary School who's been busy making a name for herself in the education world. In 2009, she was named Idaho Woman of the Year by the Idaho Business Review, and in 2011, she was one of five educators nationally chosen to receive Teaching Tolerance’s award for Excellence in Culturally Responsive Pedagogy, and this year, Galaviz’s devotion to her students has again been recognized.
