Research indicates that carefully planned, contiguous application of our project based learning curriculums will provide outstanding results! These results include performance boosts in test scores, direct correlation to important standards, stronger problem solving capabilities, and higher levels of self-esteem. Implementing a school or district wide solution can be done using PCS Learning Labs through the entire K-12 spectrum. Starting with the PCS BrickLab Grade Series in 1st Grade, students are introduced to basic brick nomenclature, classroom management rules, and the regular structure of the activities. Continuing this experience in 2nd Grade, students advance through more complex activities while revisiting familiar ones at their new level of expertise. Each year of experience builds on the previous and students become highly proficient with the project based approach and the manipulatives.
Beginning in 3rd Grade, students can begin using the Academy of Engineering (AOE) program and curriculum. This remarkable learning lab solution introduces more advanced manipulatives and nomenclature and naturally expands upon the foundation laid with the PCS BrickLab Grade series. Students continue to use the BrickLab Grade Series weekly through 5th Grade while using the AOE as well. One Academy of Engineering program is typically shared by the entire school on a rotating basis.
Beginning in 6-8th Grade, students are introduced to the Academy of Robotics (AOR) program. This extends upon the applied math, science, and technology skills that are now well established in students and opens the door to advanced applications.
The Academy of Engineering and Academy of Robotics programs include curriculum solutions to extend this learning process through the 12th grade. It is remarkable what a systematic application can accomplish. Students become naturally familiar with lab guidelines, nomenclature, and the processes required to work together as a team starting in the 1st Grade. Constant exposure to this process melts away much of the time wasting exercises that educators typically experience when introducing new systems, nomenclature, and processes each year. Just imagine what a contiguous learning experience can accomplish for your students!
